Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

Matinée ("we", "us", "our") operates the website matinee.cc (the "Service"). This page informs you of our policies regarding the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data when you use our Service, and the choices you have associated with that data.

We are committed to protecting your privacy in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable EU data protection law.

Data We Collect

Matinée does not require you to create an account or provide any personal information to use the Service. We do not collect your name, email address, or any directly identifying information.

However, the following data may be collected automatically when you visit the site:

  • Usage data — pages visited, time spent, referring URL, browser type, device type, and approximate geographic location (country/region level), collected via Google Analytics.
  • Quiz history — your past quiz scores are stored locally in your browser (localStorage) only. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us.
  • Advertising data — Google AdSense may collect data to serve personalised or non-personalised advertisements, including cookies and device identifiers. See Google's privacy policy for details.

Cookies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies through Google Analytics and Google AdSense. These third-party services may set cookies on your device to measure traffic, analyse usage patterns, and serve advertisements.

You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, some parts of our Service may not function correctly.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with Matinée. Google Analytics collects data such as session duration, pages visited, and traffic sources. This data is aggregated and anonymised — we cannot identify individual users from it.

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Google AdSense

Matinée uses Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google AdSense may use cookies and web beacons to collect data in order to serve ads based on your prior visits to our website or other websites on the internet.

Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.

For more information on how Google uses data when you use our site, please visit Google's Privacy Policy.

Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

Under the GDPR, we rely on the following legal bases for processing data:

  • Legitimate interests — for analytics, to understand how the Service is used and to improve it.
  • Consent — for personalised advertising via Google AdSense, where applicable under EU law.

Your Rights Under GDPR

If you are located in the European Union, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access — you can request a copy of the data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Right to erasure — you can ask us to delete your data.
  • Right to object — you can object to our processing of your data for direct marketing or legitimate interests.
  • Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time.

Since Matinée does not collect personally identifying information directly, most of these rights apply to data held by third-party services (Google). To exercise your rights with Google, please visit myaccount.google.com.

Data Retention

Quiz history stored in your browser's localStorage is retained for 90 days and then automatically deleted. We do not store any personal data on our servers. Analytics and advertising data retention is governed by Google's own policies.

Children's Privacy

Matinée does not knowingly collect personal data from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new policy on this page and updating the "last updated" date above. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
